no power

The power just went out. At first I was so scared I could not move. Then I just stood there a while and listened to a completely silent house. That was even creepier. I tried to whistle just to make a little noise. But no luck. My mouth was bone dry. Rob came down to check the sump pump what ever that is, and calmed me down. So now I stand here in the dark I guess this is better than trying to swim. I wonder if power is out at the old navy. Dominick is probably needing to change into unsoiled board shorts. He is such a whimp. ok everybody. Time to get some rest! Good night. Q

what a day!

Today was... well lets just say it was interesting.   It was pretty hot out today, so the boss decided we should take half the day off and go swimming.  I have never been swimming before.  I know that seems odd, but where I come from there simply are not a lot of swimming pools.  Anyway, I figured why not.  The pool is not too deep, and I could just get in splash a bit and cool off.

I was gonna save this for Mondays TDS Tidbit, but I will share it now.  Apparently we mannequins do NOT float.  Well, not for very long anyway.  I had bubbles coming out of everyplace!  Talk about your water weight gain!!  So, I figured I would just get out and work on my tan.   I was draining for 15 minutes.... heck I didn't drain that much after two days by the water cooler.

The tanning attempt was pretty much unsuccessful too.  I was laying out for three hours and I don't think I am even a shade darker.

After that I started my own Facebook page.  Now that was a fun time.  So many wonderful people out there.  I am hoping Fons and Porter accept my friend request!!

To all my wonderful blog followers, and all my new Facebook friends, I wish you a very good night!

So much for the water cooler

Hi everybody,  thanks to all of you who are following me now.  It is very exciting.

Well, I am back in the basement now waiting for my next textile display session.  Not that one is in the near future.... sigh.... apparently I scared the bejeebers out of the boss yesterday.  I don't know how.  Amanda knew I was there. Heck I had been there since the day before.  She walked in to the kitchen, and let out a yelp that actually made me jump.  Next thing I know I am back downstairs, but it is ok  it gives me more time to tell everybody about my day.

Dominick, my Old Navy TDS friend has stopped talking to me.  He says I am getting to snooty what with having my own blog following.  No big loss.  To be honest I think he secretly wants to work at Victoria's Secret. [burn]  Besides, I would rather meet a nice Buckle or American Eagle TDS...

That is all for now.  I need to practice my pose.  You never know when the next display session will be.

P.S. Fons and Porter I'm still waiting to hear from you... I can help hold quilts on your show... I would be awesome!

Rule 32, enjoy the little things

Christeen worked late last night and didn't even say hi to me when she came home and I was standing right by the water cooler.  How rude.  So this morning, she came downstairs to eat breakfast before class and  I just smiled at her.  She liked to jump right out of her skin.  It made me giggle.  Rule 32 enjoy the little things.

I really do love my job

What an amazing day!  So, I was hanging around the water cooler and I had literally been there for hours just standing around shooting the breeze with anybody who passed by.  When all of the sudden the Boss comes down.  I thought I was canned for sure!  Did she fire me? NO!
In fact she noticed that my sandal had come undone and she fixed it for me.

Did you notice?  They are letting me wear the StudioCalvin Bracelet. It is awesome!

You can get the bracelet here.

Hee Hee now I can tell my boss I did SOME work today.

What a great place! I got to hang out at the water cooler ALL DAY!  Nobody even cared.  This is my kind of job  I think I will make Mondays my TDS Tidbit day.   At the end of every Monday after a day of water cooler introspection, I will share a morsel of Textile Display Specialist wisdom with you.

I will say goodnight with this TDS Tidbit :   The leading cause of death among fashion models is falling through street grates.

New Product

YAY! The new Item is going up on ETSY as I type this.  That means I get to tell you what it is!  It is an apron, very like the one I was wearing in my profile picture.  That one was a prototype.  Now they are up for sale on StudioCalvin ETSY.  Take a look.  I am thinking of printing out autographed copies of this shoot, cause I am smokin'  I can almost feel my first magazine cover now.  Thanks StudioCalvin! Together we rock.

You can get the apron here

Help me pick my hair

Well, Amanda is putting the finishing touch on her top secret project, so Rob kept his word and took some hair shots.  SWEET!  Ok here are my two different looks, I have a favorite, but I want your opinions!

So here we have my pink and black with flowers.  Yeah, I'm hot, but sorry guys, I'm seeing this really cool TDS who it currently working the front display at the local Old Navy.

Now over to the right is my all pink look, it is awesome too! Oh I don't know which one to pick what do you all think?

Man what a weekend

Hi everybody I hope you all had a great weekend.  Mine was wonderful, but it seems like I have been on my feet the entire time.  It is times like this when I wish I had articulating limbs so I could sit down.

I am excited.  My boss, Amanda, is finishing up her next item going into her Studio catalog.  Of course I, as the Chief Textile Display Specialist (I like the sound of that), will be handling the visual marketing of it.  I am not allowed to divulge what Amanda is making.  Apparently industrial espionage is huge in the home crafting community.  Who knew.  Anyway, it should be done soon so be sure to check us out.    I hope Rob will let me wear my new hair, he said I  could get better pictures the next time he did a shoot.  I am getting very excited.

I had a little run in with one of the hand display technicians yesterday.  She saw my interpretation of the best way to pose with a bracelet.  She said my style was cold and lifeless.  I think she is worried about her job, because I totally rocked it!!

OK  That is it for now.  Remember a new item will be popping up soon!

TGIF

Good morning world. Happy Friday. I am finishing my first week at my new studio job and I think I am really getting settled in. I have my own little spot, and I got my first pay check ever. It was not a lot, but hey I am just starting out. I can't expect to make CEO until I've been here a while right? Just kidding Amanda. She is my boss. She seems really nice so far. Oh back to my first pay! I got hair! Here is a pic, it is not a good one. The studio photog promised he would get good shots of me at the next textile expose. But here is one I took with my phone for now. What do you think? I make pink look good right?

Welcome!

Hi everybody!  Welcome to my Blog.  I hope you will enjoy following me on my journey through my career and one day to stardom!

Let me start my first post by telling you a little about myself.  My name is Quinnie I am a textile display specialist.  Some people call us mannequins, or even dummies.... how rude.  You however have obviously taken the time to educate yourself on the proper terminology.   My start in this field was a little rocky.   I was "discovered" by a man claiming to be a talent scout for K-mart in Vermont and that they had a perfect spot for me during the up coming back-to-school event.  Turns out he wanted me to work in the intimates section....

So I had a friend throw me in a box and ship me to a studio Illinois where I am currently the chief textile display specialist.  I have two hand display technicians working under me so I guess it is kind of a management job.  I am finally moving up.  That is me to right on my first day at the job.  I think I look a little stiff here, but I know I will get better with practice.

I have already done 10 or so textile displays.  The work is ok so far.  I was not happy when I was told I would not be allowed to wear anything during the shoot because it would detract from the product.  I had been told it would be asked of me as a textile display specialist, but it took some getting used to.  I did get to wear a bracelet for some of them.  The picture to the left is one of my first shoots.  It shows my bum.. although I have to admit, it is a nice one.  I hope they are not too risque, but hey this is high fashion right?  OK That is it for tonight

Good night everybody!
